This week, OpenAI makes a bold stride into Hollywood — actively courting film studios, directors, and talent agencies, to embed its tool Sora into filmmaking. Post CEO Sam Altman attending all the major award’s seasons parties, could AI be in the game for an Oscar nom?

Meanwhile a recent survey uncovered mixed feelings in the film and TV industry about AI's impact: 42% fear it will harm their careers yet 32% see its potential benefits. And an analysis of over 4 million artworks reveals that AI boosts artist productivity — but at the cost of originality?

We cover these stories, plus the AI art tool that can actually create readable text, ‘Suno AI’ the new Sora for music, and whether AI can be considered reparations?

Cinema and Industry

🎥 OpenAI goes to Hollywood to break into the film business with their gen-AI video tool, Sora. The tech-giant has scheduled meetings with film studios, directors and talent agencies to encourage creatives to integrate its technology into the filmmaking process.

🔄 Emad Mostaque has resigned as CEO of Stability AI, one of the major players behind Stable Diffusion “to pursue decentralised AI”, stepping down from his position on the board as well. His departure is likely a response to the company's shift towards commercialising AI.

💰Is AI reparations? Filmmaker Willonius Hatcher believes so, claiming it democratises filmmaking. After years of struggling to break into Hollywood, AI was his way in, empowering himself, and other underrepresented creators to bypass traditional industry barriers.

🎭 Indie horror film "Late Night With the Devil" faces boycotts due to its use of AI art, despite a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The directors have addressed fan concerns, noting they only used three AI images briefly to enhance the 1970s aesthetic.

📊 Survey reveals 42% of film and TV workers worry AI will harm their field, yet 32% see benefits. Nearly half of freelancers fear AI related job losses in writing, music, and journalism. Despite concerns, two-thirds are regularly using, or have experimented with the tech.

Arts and Entertainment

🎨 Artists who use AI are more productive but less original, reveals a study of over 4 million works by 53,000 users on a popular art-sharing platform. The analysis suggests AI tools lead to stereotypical depictions, and questions how AI may dilute the creative process.

📱Redditors are arguing about AI art — alongside much of the internet. A Reddit user banned for sharing AI art on Facebook has ignited a debate on a subreddit, with critics slamming AI art as "theft" and supporters alleging jealousy and gatekeeping.

💬 This AI art tool can actually create images with clear, legible text, addressing a common shortcoming in AI-generated art. Ideogram offers 25 free image prompts per day, with subscription options available but struggles to recognise specific fonts and typefaces.

🎶What is Suno AI? A viral AI-powered song generator that creates full songs from text prompts, allowing users to specify genres and topics for their music. With the free version, users get 50 credits daily for ten songs, but can't use the music commercially.

📷 WhatsApp plans to launch an AI-powered image editing tool that will be integrated into the app to boost user engagement. This feature will include the ability to expand images without losing quality, refine image details, and change the background.

In case you missed it

Have you heard of Haiper AI? It’s a free text-to-video tool, producing HD 2-4 second clips that some people are comparing to Sora…
